Good Evening Wahoos, We hope this message finds you well-rested, joyful, and ready to return and finish the 2023-24 school year! Our dedicated teachers and staff are thrilled to see the smiling faces of our students filling our classrooms and halls once again. As a reminder, parents must sign in, students arriving after 8:00 am, and early check-outs are over at 2:30 pm. Likewise, parents cannot walk up and get their children during dismissal. This policy is to avoid confusion and for the safety of our students and staff. We know that emergencies may arise, and transportation may need to change occasionally. That said, please send a written note with your child to school indicating such a change or a message on the NCPS app by 2:30 pm. We thank you in advance for understanding and ensuring the safety of our students. Also, report cards will go home on Monday, and the mClass MOY testing window will open on January 10. This week, we will start our "fast pass" car line ticket sale. With each $1 donation to the school, you will enter your name into the "fast pass" drawing. On the back of the ticket, please write your name or child's name and phone number. If you want a specific number of tickets, please message your child's teacher or an administrator. We will pull out five names on Friday afternoon. The winners will not have to sit in the car line but can pull to the back of the school at 3 pm, and their kids will be waiting without the line and hassle. The most recent federal data show that in the 2020-21 school year, at least 14.7 million students nationwide were chronically absent. This means that chronic absence has almost doubled from the more than 8 million students, pre-Covid-19, who were missing so many days of school that they were academically at risk. Chronic absence — missing 10 percent or more of school days due to absence for any reason—excused, unexcused absences, and suspensions—can translate into students having difficulty learning to read by the third grade, achieving in middle school, and graduating from high school. Good Evening Wahoo Family, This is a reminder that tomorrow and Thursday are both early release days. Students will get out at 1 pm. Please make sure you are at your child’s bus stop 2 hours earlier than normal. Students are out for the Winter break starting on Friday. Students will return to school on Monday, January 8th. Lastly, as some of you may have heard, it is bittersweet for me to announce that I will be transferring to Coopers Elementary starting January 1st as the Principal. For the past 2.5 years I have been blessed to call WAVE my family. Just as the feeling of embarking on a new life experience is exciting, leaving all of you is equally disheartening. I know that I am leaving behind a school filled with amazing students and staff as well as awesome parents and community members. I know for sure that you are in great hands with Mrs. Kelley, which makes the transition away from WAVE a little easier. Thank you all for making my time here at Winstead Avenue absolutely amazing! I will miss you all! I hope everyone has a wonderful evening.

This consent allows for yearbook inclusion and school-related social media presence. Non-opted-in students won't feature in new media by the school/district. Good Evening Wahoos, This week is a short week and the last week before we get out for our Winter break. This Wednesday and Thursday are both early release days. Students will get out at 1pm. Please be at your child's bus stop 2 hours earlier than normal. For the holiday attire this week, we have on Monday wear blue/white, Tuesday wear your favorite holiday headwear, Wednesday wear your favorite ugly sweater, and Thursday wear your favorite holiday attire. Last but not least, if you have a rising kindergartener and you are interested in them being in the dual language classroom next year, please go online and complete the necessary forms. Please complete those before the break if possible. Once we come back in January, this will open up to the public and it is first come, first serve basis. I hope everyone has a great evening!

Please make sure students still dress warm because it is cold outside and also ensure that students wear their tennis shoes for safety and for PE. Also, students will be able to indulge in hot cocoa and watch The Polar Express.
